Even with constant maintenance and preventative care, unpredictable events may occur with your air conditioner. Power outages are a possibility. Storms of considerable intensity can hit. As a result, Madeira Heating & Air feels that being prepared and having a plan in place if your A/C goes down this summer is a great idea. You don’t want to be stuck outside when it’s this hot now that temperatures have been soaring. Continue reading to learn some solutions for basic troubleshooting if your A/C went out unexpectedly this summer.
If Your A/C Is Out, Did You Check the Thermostat?
Dead or weak thermostat batteries are frequently the source of A/C issues. If you can’t recall when you last changed the battery in your thermostat, it’s probably time for a new set! When air conditioning devices begin to malfunction, many individuals don’t think of checking their thermostats. So, if your own A/C is giving you problems, be sure to check the thermostat’s battery life first thing when it malfunctions.
If Your A/C Is Out, Did You Check the Circuit Breaker?
Have you inspected the circuit breaker? You could have missed seeing the switch flipping, so don’t count it out as a possibility just yet. It’s quite possible that the A/C switch turned off while you were away from the house or even late at night while you were asleep. The answer to your air conditioner problem may be as easy as flipping the same switch back to “on.”
If Your A/C Is Out, Did You Check the Air Filter?
If your air conditioner goes out, check the air filter for a clogged filter. An air filter that is not changed regularly can become blocked with dust, dirt, and other airborne particles, resulting in a variety of system issues including short cycling. So, if your A/C continues to give you headaches, clean the air filter and replace it if necessary.
If Your A/C Is Out, Did You Check the Compressor?
After that, check the compressor outside. It’s critical to ensure that the component has not been damaged in any way. If a large tree limb, for example, falls on top of the equipment or even loose debris gets caught in the fan blades, the compressor may need to be repaired. In addition, if you hear unusual noises coming from the compressor, this is another tell-tale sign that something further is going on with the unit. So, if you hear anything like this, please contact us as soon as possible.
If Your A/C Is Out, What Should You NOT Do?
Please be advised that we are in the peak season of the year, during which there will undoubtedly be many others who are also uncomfortable in the heat. However, it is critical to us that our clients’ comfort and well-being are not jeopardized. As a result, we’ll do everything we can to get to your home as quickly as possible! But what should you avoid doing while you wait?
We strongly advise against using heat-generating devices like your kitchen stove, oven, dishwasher, or washing machine. These will only exacerbate the already high temperature in your house. We also advise you to avoid opening your freezer door in hopes of getting a little comfort from the cold air that comes from within. Unfortunately, we don’t feel that spoiled frozen food is worth the tiny bit of cool air escaping through a slightly open freezer.
